Are there any courses on UX Writing?

June 28, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Currently, there aren’t any courses on UX Writing. UX Writing is a relatively new career path that has sprung because of the need for good copy for users when they interact with the system. With companies like Google, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb and other high profile companies looking for UX Writers, it has become an in-demand skill at the moment.

There are a few ways you can get into UX Writing. If you do come with writing expertise, you can start off as a content writer in a small company/startup. Joining and working in a small company can make you try and figure out things along the way.

If you are working for a small tech company, design studio or startup, start out in a different role. You could be a designer, developer, design manager or be the someone trying to work on improving UX copy for your clients. The best part about working in a smaller place is you get to learn from each person on the team.

If you are a student and are looking to get into a UX Writing career, you can enrol yourself in writing courses. In case you want to learn more about design, enrol yourself into design courses. If you are interested in learning things on your own, check out online courses on design/development, product design along with improving your writing skills. By chance, if you already understand UX design, usability, product design, then you can just work on improving your writing. There is no predefined path to becoming a UX writer, and that is actually a really good thing. You can figure it out as you keep working in the field.
