What are some benefits and drawbacks of freelancing in design?

December 30, 2022 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Freelancing in design can offer several benefits, including the ability to choose your own projects, set your own schedule, and potentially earn a higher hourly rate than you might as a salaried employee. It can also allow you to work with a variety of clients and industries, which can help you to build a diverse portfolio and develop a range of skills.

However, freelancing also has its drawbacks. One of the main challenges is the lack of job security, as you may not have a steady stream of work and may need to constantly search for new clients. Freelancers also have to handle their tax and insurance obligations and may not have access to the same benefits as salaried employees, such as health insurance and paid time off. In addition, freelancers may need to spend more time on administrative tasks, such as invoicing and contract negotiations, which can take away from time spent on creative work.
