What can UX designers learn from gaming?

July 31, 2018 by uday nandan

Gaming is an industry that had been frowned upon for a long time but is now seeing an improvement in the general public’s opinion of gaming and e-sports. While e-sports have been here for a long time, only recently they began to entice and interest the public, with famous athletes like Shaquille O’Neal investing in teams. Apparently, gaming is here to stay and UX designers are essential in providing the best user experience both in-game, and on the outside.

It is the UX designers’ job to make a seamless transition between the real world and the gaming world, and they are the director of how users will like the games. User experience designers can learn upon this knowledge by observing and analyzing how users, gamers enjoy the games and what is the trigger for their happiness or sadness while playing them. Implementing the information gained from the analyzed data will prove to be of great value in designing future interfaces in the world of tomorrow and for gaming purposes in the future.

User experience designers can learn upon the concepts that gaming works on, such as rewards and punishments, little or no reward times, team and individual mentality and concepts like game theory and logic which science has been exploring since the beginning of time.
