Can one be a UX designer and a fine artist at the same time?

June 26, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Absolutely. There are quite the many designers who are also artists in their free time. Many of them pursue drawing, painting, or any other form of art in their free hours apart from working as a UX Designer. Work sure can take a toll sometimes so having a creative hobby is the perfect way to unwind after a hard day.

In some ways, it’s good to have a hobby like drawing or painting; it can help you relax, reduce stress, gives you the chance to experiment with different forms of art and helps one to learn and explore more in the creative field. Indirectly it could also help you in your design work; studies have proved that having a creative hobby helps improve your thinking and problem-solving skills and coming up with creative and out-of-the-box ideas. It all comes down to just how well you can maintain the perfect balance between design work and a personal art hobby. There are plenty of successful designers who have this balance; they go to work in the mornings and run their own creative side businesses in the evenings or over the weekend as a way to detox and destress from the rigours of a job.
