How to Use User Scenario to Create Great UX Design?

September 22, 2018 by Dimitrios Stamatis

User scenarios are fictional stories describing the user’s process of discovering or using your product for a specific goal. They shed light on the user’s motivations, questions and thought process helping designers and stakeholders understand what drives users when interacting with a product, prototype or design.

In practice, User Scenarios can be used in various ways to enhance the UX Design of a product/service. They can be very handy during the ideation phase of a project. Helping visualize the multitude of ways a user could use a product or a service. User Scenarios can identify key areas that would require further user testing and also provide some framework on what should be tested. They can help establish goals or tasks for the user which in turn can help the information architecture and actual content. Creating more elaborate scenarios can help communicate specific user needs to the developing team leading to products with enhanced usability. User Scenarios help us narrow down the broad context of our offering into specific user goals helping us make concrete adjustments to address them and provide an overall great user experience.

About Dimitrios Stamatis

I am a designer of physical and digital products with a background in industrial design and visual communication. I have worked in design consultancies in London, China, and Greece. I strive to design products, services, and experiences that address pressing human needs by enabling change, challenging preconceptions and shifting paradigms. I like to prototype possibilities, simplify complexities and bring the future a little closer. I am fascinated by human behavior (mostly the irrational side) and I like to question a lot.
