How difficult is it to be a UX Designer?

May 3, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Before answering the question, let’s understand what a UX Designer actually does. The term, nowadays, is getting redundant, with everyone calling themselves a designer. Either they just do it just for the sake of it, as a way to show off, or maybe they do know what they are doing. A UX Designer’s primary task is improving user satisfaction of a product by making it’s usability, accessibility and interaction, better. In simpler terms, he needs to make the product user-friendly for the ultimate end user by coming up with a best possible solution to the problem. He/she comes up with the probable solution by going through a process; conducting user research, understanding the market, building personas, wireframes and product flows and prototypes. His main aim is to ensure the product will be used easily by the end user. He works along with a team of designers, developers and analysts along with the clients to come up with the final experience of the product. A UX Designer may or may not design the visuals, but he may be involved in the final testing of the product to ensure everything works smoothly.

To answer the question, No, it is not difficult to be a UX Designer. But it’s challenging and exciting to be able to work with a team and come up with possible solutions that may help a client’s business. It’s a growing and evolving field so you have to keep yourself informed of the trends and exciting things happening always. You need to be observant of the things around you, have a teensy bit of common sense when coming up with solutions and be smart and confident of the ideas you are presenting. As said, it’s super exciting field with so many advancements happening, so if you are planning to get into the field of UX Design, ensure that you do understand what it is all about and what a studio/company may want from you when they are looking for a UX Designer. Just don’t title yourself as a UX Designer just because everyone is doing so. It’s not cool. Seriously.
