Are UX Designers becoming more common because web designers want a fancy job title?

December 3, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Truth. If you happen to browse LinkedIn for the past couple of years, you will notice this trend. Graphic designers gravitate towards Visual and UI designers and Web designers call themselves UX Designers. People don’t realize that UX design is a whole different ball game; it’s not just designing cool interfaces and coding the interface with cool interactions. UX involves a process; research, understanding users, building processes and flows, defining the experience and finally designing the experience (building the UI). It requires common sense, practical knowledge, understanding industry trends and looking up the market and working on solid research.

The reason people do this fancy title change is to look hip and cool and to not lose face to their fellow colleagues and workers. UX should not be taken as joke; unless you are confident of your skills which can make you call yourself a UX Designer, don’t do the silly task of changing your title to a “UX Designer”. Just giving yourself a fancy title is not going to yield anything. The industry is already going through a lack of good designers, and doing this will further affect the market. Think before you title yourself.
