There is no right or wrong path here. You could have a wonderful career or fail miserably with both options. As with every career choice, there is no lifelong guarantee that the road ahead will be paved with gold and your skills are going to be in demand forever. That said there are a few considerations that could help you decide your direction. First, you need to see which of the two roles align with your values, desires, and capabilities. You can read the career descriptions, see work examples and ideally talk with professionals from both fields. If intuition and initial research do not give a clear answer you can enlist the help of more logical facts. You can research the demand for each job in your target country/countries, average salaries and future progression. A quick check reveals that while both jobs are in demand, Digital Marketing seems to have more available positions. On the other hand, UX/UI Design offers greater compensation with higher starting and progressing salaries. Since both jobs are valuable and in demand there is no clear winner in this debate. You can introspect, research or even practice each job before you make a final decision.

About Dimitrios Stamatis
I am a designer of physical and digital products with a background in industrial design and visual communication. I have worked in design consultancies in London, China, and Greece. I strive to design products, services, and experiences that address pressing human needs by enabling change, challenging preconceptions and shifting paradigms. I like to prototype possibilities, simplify complexities and bring the future a little closer. I am fascinated by human behavior (mostly the irrational side) and I like to question a lot.
