Colors have always stood out as essential ingredients in the design process. And with the unlimited supply of natural alternatives, the process of identifying the perfect color combination for any given design work remains a tall order for many designers and developers. Given the influence any such choices have on the overall product whether it is a website or logo, there is an ever-present need to take shade patterns seriously even though it is quite a challenge.  Well, at the moment there are multiple amazing tools which can be used by professionals and creative hobbyists in the quest to choose suitable color palettes for distinct design works. Color Hunt ranks among the most popular options at the disposal of various users.

What is Color Hunt?

Color Hunt is best described as a web-based application that offers an open collection of curated color palettes. It is designed particularly to celebrate the rich beauty afforded by dozens of natural hues and also acts as a go-to source for designers, artists, developers, illustrators, and any other person looking for unique patterns to meet different coloring needs. Color Hunt allows users to peruse an extensive list of adorable, hand-picked, and free color palettes without going through any complex processes. Unlike other online coloring tools, Color Hunt is a little different in that it is more of a social community sharing exceptional color patterns on a single platform.

Features of Color Hunt

Front page

The display and working interface displays recent and most liked shade palettes neatly arranged according to the submission date. It gives access to already curated color palettes although new creations are submitted and put up everyday subject to verification and approval of the site’s pioneer and curator. From the front page, users can look through some of the most incredible creations from others by sorting them by categories such as weeks, all-time, and so on.

Review system

Color Hunt was pioneered by Gal Shir, the same person who continues to curate every product submitted by the user community of this tool. All the fresh submissions are sent to the admin dashboard from where they are reviewed by the creator of this tool and only the best are shown.

Likes

On the site, users can vote for their preferred palettes just by clicking on whatever piece they find attractive. The like sign appears at the bottom left the edge of each color panel indicating how many votes of approval every combination listed get. Anyone can vote just by accessing the platform. No need to subscribe or create an account. Over time the highly ranked (those with over 1k votes) forms the top color palettes collection.

Local storage

With this tool, users have the freedom to browse and save all the like. Color Hunt provides for local storage on individual user browsers considering no sign up is necessary to use the platform. The curator also has a database that attaches each likes to a user’s IP address and records the same to prevent the same person from liking a panel more than once.

Create page

Color Hunt allows users to come up with self-made palettes effortlessly from the homepage. On the menu, there is a create page link which leads to a fresh slate where you can create any desirable color combination. However, one has to adhere to the set specifications. For instance, each palette to consist of only four colors with a particular hierarchy. There is also a ratio that determines the display size of each shade on the panel.

Unique URL for each color palette

Color Hunt provides tags every palette with a unique URL which allows users to bookmark any of the available choices for later use or to facilitate sharing across different social sites. By passing the mouse cursor over any of the creations you will also get to see a hex code which can be copied and pastes on your work.

Color Hunt comes with a chrome extension so users can browse and access all they want conveniently.
