Is it unusual for companies not to have a UX Design test or exercise during interviews?

August 17, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

Most of the cases, when you’re applying for a UX Design position at companies/startups/studios, there will be either a small test/exercise during the interview or a take-home kind of an exercise where you are given some time to solve a UX problem. About 70 to 80% of interviews will be such. But there may be the rare cases where companies may not give you a test or exercise. This could happen if you present a really strong portfolio highlighting all the work you have done and the skills you possess. In such cases, your interview may be more on the lines of you explaining how you came up with solutions for the projects you have done along with questions regarding your understanding of processes, methods, tools, dealing with clients and other general questions.
