How do I showcase work in my portfolio if I have been bound by the NDA?

August 14, 2018 by Swathi Kirthyvasan

This is always an issue if you are looking to add a project you worked really hard on it but can’t add it to your portfolio because you are bound by the NDA. Normally client’s are pretty understanding in these cases as long as you showcase the project without revealing too much about the business or core strategy model. Still, here are a couple of things you could do in that case.

  1. Ask the client if you can put a few screens and some shots of the thought process involved in the project without revealing too much of the business idea.
  2. You can remove the logo and any sign of the client’s mark from the project and add shots of the project along with explaining how you came up with the ideas and what was your role in the project. Again, yes, with your client’s consent.
  3. If none of these works out, you can make up the project to look like a fictitious brief/problem you solved. Write out the general problem statement and how you managed to solve the problem without revealing too much about the original project.
  4. If the project has gone live and is being used by the public, then there is no harm in putting up the project. Everything’s out in the open, so you can be a little free on explaining what you worked on and how involved you were in the project. But still, do take the client’s permission again before you do it.
